Application of Polyvinyl Acetate/Lignin Copolymer as Bio-Based Coating Material and Its Effects on Paper Properties

In this work, lignin-vinyl acetate copolymers containing different fractions of lignin were synthesized by the copolymerization technique. The copolymer was successfully applied to coat paper for enhancing its properties and performance. effects on physicochemical, air permeability mechanical investigated. strength, hydrophilic, coated improved with increasing content lignin. Lignin-vinyl 15% exhibited a 1.86 times increase in tensile index, 45 water contact angle, 41.1% reduction compared uncoated paper. Scanning electron microscopy study morphology results showed that surface porosity structure decreased, while smoothness enhanced considerably fraction copolymer.
